The Miramontes Collection Biography Miramontes Collection
Miramontes Carnelian Bead Necklace with Green Rondells and Jadite Pendant After spending thirty years as educators in New York, David and Marcella Hirschy decided to relocate and begin designing jewelry, leatherwork and furniture. Having ties to Arizona (David’s family owned a home in Prescott, while Marcella grew up the daughter of a miner in Clarkdale) the Hirschy’s chose Arizona as their base of operations, studying with local silver and leathersmiths in order to learn the skills necessary to create their unique historically-influenced pieces. The work of Mexican silversmiths in the 1930s is the primary source of inspiration for the Hirschys’; blending colonial, art deco and pre-hispanic influences, the pieces are varied stylistically and constructed of a variety of materials, including ancient stone beads, old trade beads, jade, onyx, garnets, amethysts and, above all, silver. The name Miramontes is meant to further bond the historical to the present- derived from Marcella’s family name, it means "View of the Mountains.” Examples of their work have been displayed in both the Smithsonian Design Museum and the Phippen Museum.
